And thus he did preach.leading away the hearts of many. In fact I'm still ignorant as to whether you think rape is a crime or a civil right based on what you have posted! There is a character in Alma 30 named Korihor who preached with some success the doctrine that "there could be no atonement made for the sins of men, but every man fared in this life according to the management of the creature therefore every man prospered according to his genius and.conquered according to his strength and whatsoever a man did was no crime. Not being a lawyer and with but little taste for controversy I'll have to plead ignorance. You are better informed about the California controversies than I. 55ff.ĭiamond and Sigmundson, “Sex Reassignment,” p. The question is not whether or not the LDS (Mormons) are nice to the people that they are trying to deny civil rights to (no one has denied that the Mormon Church was behind Proposition 8 or NOM), but why the LDS lied about it. The very way you frame the issue ("same-sex concerns" and that "god commands all men to repent") shows that you believe homosexuality to be a sin, and not a natural, biological occurrence (see references, below). Is it you contention that homosexuality is not a sin? That it is not the sin of Sodom, forbidden by the Book of Mormon? If so, please let us know. Jesus acknowledged eunuchs and others whose callings in life are not those of the majority and I believe we attempt to follow His perfect example, though I make no claim of perfection in that attempt.

It just means our Heavenly Father loves us enough to desire that we reach our full potential - which for many includes righteous parenthood. The fact that God commands "all men everywhere" to repent doesn't mean He is denying anyone their civil rights. While I myself do abstain from gay conduct I have had cordial and cooperative relationships with gay members of the Church (one of whom lamentably died of AIDS a few decades ago). The ward I just attended yesterday had a posted notice inviting people with same-sex concerns to meet and discuss them in a non-judgmental atmosphere.

Are you asserting that non-consensual sex is a "civil right"? Church leaders have repeatedly counseled members of the LDS Church to treat gay people with respect and kindness. In Genesis 19 the sin of Sodom (referred to by the Isaiah quotation of 2 Nephi13) is clearly attempted rape. I'm not so sure the Book of Mormon is as clear as you say it is.
